Lies...

I had a horrible nights sleep, doze and then wake over and over.  I couldn't put my finger on why until church this morning.  Ron had practiced his sermon on me, it was on my mind all night.

He has been preaching on the 10 commandments when he fills in for the Pastor of our church.  Today was the 9th commandment, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."  It is so much more as you dig into it.

A lie is speaking what you know isn't true.  It is also a matter of your heart's attitude,  not just a matter of the words that come out of your mouth.  Ron said, "The lie makes the liar a servant to the lie."  How?  You often have to top lie on top of lie to cover up the first lie to protect yourself.  Often you lied in the first place to cover up some sin.  Ouch!  Who is the father of lies?  Yeah, makes you cringe like it did me.

I think the hardest part of his sermon for me was when he reminded us that we don't say the same thing that God does about ourselves.  We make excuses, we down play or just plain ignore our sins of commission/omission.  If we don't confess our sins we are then we not saying the same thing God says about our sins.  If we don't confess, and say the same thing God says about our sins, we are putting up a wall or an obstacle in our relationship with the Lord.

1 John 1:10  "If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us."

I have to chuckle.  By not confessing to God we are trying to fool ourselves into believing that God does not know what we have done and we can go on worshiping Him as if this huge thing isn't standing between us.  Oh, what fools we are!  God sees all and knows all.  We live our lives before Him and we must choose to say the same thing about our sins as He does every single time.
